What is an infrared sauna and how do they work. An infrared sauna is similar to a traditional sauna in that they both make you sweat. The main reason anyone uses a sauna is to sweat.

Then of course you may ask, why do people want to sweat, is sweating good for you? The main reason we sweat is to regulate body temperature. This prevents us from overheating.

Sweating also helps to clean your pores. This as a result helps keep your skin clean, as you know when you pores get blocked you can suffer from acne.

One could argue that you loose some weight due to water loss however water in your body fluctuates throughout the day and when you drink water during or after the sauna you would just as quickly replace the water you have lost through sweating.

It is also said that sweating helps your body to expel toxins. The level to which these toxins are expelled I cannot say but it does provide for this process to take place. The body eliminates toxins in many areas and one of those key areas is through the skin.

So as to explain toxins a little better, I would describe them as impurities that can affect the proper functioning of you body. Let’s put it this way, the more toxins in your body the worse you will feel.

So the key to saunas both infrared and traditional is to heat up the body so as to make you sweat. This results in sweating and improved blood circulation which helps to cleanse your body. Heat can also help with muscle aches.

If you ask people the biggest benefit of Infrared Sauna baths, they will tell you “It de-stresses me”. This one benefit gets them addicted to infrared sauna baths. The moral of the story is saunas can only be dangerous if one is addicted to it. Enough care must also be taken to address the environment in which the bath is taken. All precautionary measures must be taken to ensure that the bath-taker is out of harm’s way at all times. Techniques like taking an infrared sauna bath for some parts of the body while not exposing the whole body to infrared radiations are extremely beneficial and eliminate the dangers of infrared saunas.
